Name: Andrew Armstrong
Position: Archaeologist
How long have you worked here: I work at Gloucester City Council and have done so for nearly ten years.
Can you describe a typical day: My job is very varied and includes a mix of office-based work and site visits. Office-based work includes commenting on planning applications and record keeping, site visits can include visiting on-going archaeological excavations.
What is your favourite thing about your job: I love visiting excavations that are underway, and I love engaging with the public.
What is your favourite thing about Gloucester: I love the place; the people and the pride people have in the City.
Name: Simon Nicholls
Position: Film Programmer
How long have you worked here: I have worked at Gloucester Guildhall for 3 years.
Can you describe a typical day: I respond to lots of emails about upcoming film contracts, I watch various film trailers and checking the delivery of films that have been booked arrive in good time. I sort any technical problems that arise and even get to watch the occasional film!
What is your favourite thing about your job: The variety, all of it! For anyone who has known me long enough, they know it is a dream job!
What is your favourite thing about Gloucester: The wonderful variety of people I meet daily and sitting in the serenity of the Cathedral grounds having lunch in the middle of a busy day.
Name: Cameron Singer
Position: Manager
How long have you worked here: 8 years and 9 months.
Can you describe a typical day: Selling snow sports equipment. Booking ski and snowboard classes, tubing and running events. Overseeing the running of the ski slope, café/bar, Battle-Hill Laser Tag and My Race, the snow sports shop.
What is your favourite thing about your job: Seeing happy customers.
What is your favourite thing about Gloucester: The Ski Slope of course!
Name: Charlene Olaleye
Position: Participation Producer
How long have you worked here: Almost two years
Can you describe a typical day: There is no typical day at SAL and that is what makes the job refreshing. From liaising with Gloucester schools for our Strike A Light in schools projects, coordination of our youth theatre and youth dance company or networking with local and nation organisations to bring together working strategies that will make Gloucester a culturally rich hub makes no two days the same.
What is your favourite thing about your job: Working with people who are just as passionate about putting in the work to change our City, wanting to see something change is one thing but actually doing something about it takes a lot of hard work.
What is your favourite thing about Gloucester: The people. We represent different communities and experiences and I see that as a good thing.

Position: Manager
How long have you worked here: I have worked at SUP Gloucester for 2 years.
Can you describe a typical day: A typical day starts with prepping the paddle kit and making sure everything is ready for the day. Then meet and greet with the clients followed by taking them on an adventure along the river.
What is your favourite thing about your job: I love introducing people to the sport and guiding them on a river trip.
What is your favourite thing about Gloucester: The River and the history round the docks.
Name: John Riley
Position: Visitor Experience Team Leader
How long have you worked here: I have been fortunate to be able to work across multiple for Cultural Services since 2012.
Can you describe a typical day: Welcoming visitors to the Museum and Tourist Information Centre and through excellent engaging customer service, ensuring they get the most positive experience as is possible, both of our stunning venue and wonderful historic City.
What is your favourite thing about your job: Its variety! I am a people person and so nothing makes me happier than seeing new and familiar faces walking through our doors but also when working in tourism, history, and heritage you can get stuck into so many different things! From taking a group of people around the City in the sunshine to handling incredible museum objects – it is so enjoyable!
What is your favourite thing about Gloucester: There are a lot of historic towns and cities in this country but to have such a consistent and evident place in history like Gloucester has, can be quite rare. I also love where the City is going culturally, and there seems to be a real collective team effort from all its stakeholders to improve and share the City for the benefit and enjoyment of all in the future to come.
Name: Rebecca Clay
Position: Tourism and Destination Marketing Manager
How long have you worked here: I have worked here for 6 months now but my relationship with the City feels a lot longer.
Can you describe a typical day: Cor answer a lot of emails, a lot of meetings. Chat to the team about what is on the horizon and any exciting ideas for promotional campaigns we would like to deliver. Drink one heck of a lot of tea to speed me up. Write some reports, business cases, briefs, project plans, presentations.
What is your favourite thing about your job: I love the creativity of marketing – I love seeing the campaigns we have put together pay off. I love the community of people I get to work with – all my colleagues are lovely people, and the wider tourism network too tend to be lovely like-minded passionate people.
What is your favourite thing about Gloucester: Gloucester is very much its own place, nowhere looks or feels quite like it. It is the perfect mix of anything you need from a City like amenities and facilities, but on top it is heaped in culture, history and heritage and it also has this brilliant vibrant buzzing energy that runs right through it. It always feels alive like anything could happen there at any point. And so much does happen in the City!
