Gloucester is gearing up for a busy month in March! 

The month starts with the last few days of the RPS Photography Exhibition and the Gloucester History Festival Winter Warmers followed by markets, live performances, historical tours, and so much more. Here are some of the highlights!


Moomin 80: Moomin ABC

29 March - 05 October

As part of the Moomin 80 programme in Gloucester, we invite you and your family into a magical world inspired by Moomins this Spring and Summer. Settle down for an hour to explore the magic world of the Moomins with your family and immerse yourself in the adventures of Moominmamma, Sniff, Stinky, Little My, Hodgkins, Snuffkin and Snorkmaiden!

In this incredible interactive exhibition, brought to Museum of Gloucester by the award-winning Bakehouse Factory, you can go on an amazing adventure centred on Tove Jansson's iconic stories.


RPS International Photography Exhibition (IPE)165

There's only a few more days left to visit the RPS International Photography Exhibition (IPE)165 at the Museum of Gloucester! Step into their captivating display and immerse yourself in the powerful narratives conveyed through the art of photography. Explore an array of thought-provoking themes of representation and belonging!


Gloucester History Festival Winter Warmers

Until 06 March

The Winter Warmers finish on the 6 March! The mouth-watering programme includes Jeremy Bowen, Chris Packham, Tom Kerridge, Susie Dent, Dom Joly, Mary Beard, Dan Snow, David Olusoga, Greg Jenner, William Dalrymple, Michael Wood, Natalie Haynes, Dan Jones and Philippa Langley amongst the 60 speakers.


The Whilers

Until 05 March

The next event in the Bright Nights calendar, The Whilers are otherworldly creatures on a journey into the unknown. They use nonverbal sounds and language to communicate with one another and make new friends. Gloucester City AFC vs Walton & Hersham FC

01 March

It's third versus fourth at the TigerTurf Stadium, with two team who are in form going head to head! City are unbeaten in 12 matches and a win against the visitors would edge them closer to a guaranteed play off spot. The usual fantastic value for money at just £22 for a family ticket and under 12s going free!


Under Milk Wood - rehearsed play reading

01 March

In celebration of St David's Day, Spaniel in the Works Theatre Company will be performing the 1954 Dylan Thomas play, Under Milk Wood, at The Folk of Gloucester. In the spirit of its original radio format, the play will take the form of a rehearsed reading, allowing the words to take centre stage. The show features a cast of local actors including John Bassett, Barnaby Eaton-Jones and Paul Southcott.

Hop Kettle Pop Culture Quiz

Hop Kettles Pop Culture Pub Quiz takes place on the first Tuesday of every month. £2 per person, maximum team size of 6. Book to avoid disappointment.


Another Audience Without Jake Thackray

08 March

A new show at The Folk of Gloucester celebrating the life and work of one of our finest and funniest wordsmiths, performed live by musician John Watterson (AKA 'Fake Thackray'). Leeds-born Jake Thackray (1938-2002) is increasingly recognised as being one of the greatest English songwriters of the twentieth century, a unique talent, whose songs are full of poetry, wit, irreverence and humanity.

Mighty Women from History and Science: Puppet and Craft Activity Session

08 March

In recognition of International Women's Day and British Science Week, The Folk of Gloucester are inviting families to meet some of their greatest female trailblazers and heroines in puppet form! Let science communicator Sarah Snell-Pym introduce you to science pioneers Ada Lovelace, Mary Anning and Mary Leakey; hero nurses Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole; and Gloucester's great Queen Aethelfled. Did you know that Aethelfled, who died 1,100 years ago, is believed to have been buried at St Oswald's Priory in Gloucester.


Spring Dog Show

08 March

A fun dog show at a local cafe, to support the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home. Come along for kids games, pet shop, tombola, face paints, doggy pup cups and so much more!


Morning Yoga at Gloucester Cathedral

08, 22 March

Join a small group of fellow ticket holders for exclusive early access to Gloucester Cathedral from 8:30am to 9:30am, before it opens to the public. Led by experienced Christian practitioner Lucy, these sessions take place in breathtaking locations throughout the Cathedral, from the serene Garth garden at sunrise to the awe-inspiring Medieval Cloister.


Hundred Watt Club - An Evening of Burlesque & Cabaret

21 March

Turn up the temperature with Hundred Watt Club - one of the longest running cabaret revues in the UK! Gorgeously ravishing, deliciously risqué and just a little bit ridiculous : Hundred Watt Club bring a glittering, sizzling line-up of burlesque showgirls, comedy, circus and cabaret acts to Gloucester Guildhall. There'll be vintage inspired glamour, rib tickling comedy and mind blowing variety acts. Each line-up is different, so expect the unexpected, but be ready for a beautiful, brash and bawdy night of very grown up entertainment!


Verdi's Requiem

29 March

Gloucester Choral Society presents Verdi Requiem led by acclaimed choral and orchestral director, Adrian Partington. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi's iconic masterpiece live in the historic setting of Gloucester Cathedral. Experience the grandeur of Verdi's Requiem like never before!
