Just a few reasons below, why we think it is worth a visit to your local cinema ...
Support your community
Buying a ticket for your local cinema quite simply supports both your local community and its economy. It is this very reason that ‘local cinemas’ have their die-hard band of supporters who have discovered this unique way of experience film, and who are all playing a part in keeping local theatre alive. We need to literally USE it or LOSE it.
The Setting
A local cinema is quite literally an amazing experience and offers screenings in stunning surroundings. Sherborne Cinema in Kingsholm offers cinema in a beautiful art-deco style, and Gloucester’s Guildhall offers cinema in its Grade II listed building, right in the heart of the City.
Most local cinemas have a varied and interesting history, which makes your visit even more worthwhile, Sherborne Cinema was originally built as The Friends' Sherborne Street Mission Room in 1880 and was the centre for community activities including childrens' film shows priced at sixpence each!
Atmosphere and Experience
Your local cinema offers a special experience, friendly service with a smile and a feeling that you personally are welcome.
If you went to your local multiscreen cinema, you would be less likely to chat to the team there, or someone you are sitting next to about the film, at your local cinema you are very likely to find that the crowd in attendance are film buffs, and would chat film at any time of day!
Film Listings
Whilst local cinemas do of course screen the latest blockbusters, they also offer a varied programme, some of which might not automatically appeal to you as they are less mainstream. But what’s is the worst that can happen, you might watch a film you don’t like, or realise that films in foreign languages don’t appeal to you, but best case you might find a new genre you love, that engages you and encourages you to explore further, and you can guarantee your local cinema will be happy to chat with you and no doubt give you a few recommendations.
Food and Drink
Your local cinema is less likely to have huge concession stands of franchised sweets and snacks, instead the majority offer a more home from home style menu of food and drink. Gloucester’s Guildhall is committed to using local, seasonal and sustainable produce, along with ethically sourced coffee, homemade cakes, and local craft beers. Many local cinemas do offer a bar facility, and some even offer a BYO service so you bring a bottle, sit back, relax and enjoy.
Why don’t you check out what’s on in your local cinema, book a ticket and sample a different style of cinema …
