The Setting
A local cinema is quite literally an amazing experience and offers screenings in stunning surroundings. Sherborne Cinema in Kingsholm offers cinema in a beautiful art-deco style, and Gloucester’s Guildhall offers cinema in its Grade II listed building, right in the heart of the City.
Most local cinemas have a varied and interesting history, which makes your visit even more worthwhile, Sherborne Cinema was originally built as The Friends' Sherborne Street Mission Room in 1880 and was the centre for community activities including childrens' film shows priced at sixpence each!
Atmosphere and Experience

Whilst local cinemas do of course screen the latest blockbusters, they also offer a varied programme, some of which might not automatically appeal to you as they are less mainstream. Your local cinema is less likely to have huge concession stands of franchised sweets and snacks, instead the majority offer a more home from home style menu of food and drink. Gloucester’s Guildhall is committed to using local, seasonal and sustainable produce, along with ethically sourced coffee, homemade cakes, and local craft beers. Many local cinemas do offer a bar facility, and some even offer a BYO service so you bring a bottle, sit back, relax and enjoy.
