Take a trip to Gloucester Cathedral as we explore some of the exact locations featured in the Harry Potter film saga, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the launch. Our previous article, part of a three part series, looked at some of the scenes from Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone, and this article will explore the scenes from Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets.
North Cloisters Corridor
Harry, Ron, and Hermione find Mrs. Norris (Filch’s cat) petrified and hanging upside down in the Hogwarts corridors. Behind her is a message written in blood: “The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the heir…Beware!”
The North Cloister of Gloucester Cathedral was used for this location. The production company had to be creative by creating a false wall to protect the historic cathedral walls from the blood (or paint…).
East Cloisters
Moaning Myrtle gets upset and turns on the taps in the girls' bathroom to flood the school. Harry and Ron find the water and decide to investigate where it’s coming from. The scene filmed in Gloucester Cathedral sees Harry & Ron running down a flooded corridor – can you imagine flooding Gloucester Cathedral?
Visiting this amazing filming location? We have pulled together a list of other magical activities to do in the city this November to celebrate Harry Potter's anniversary here.
