With Valentine’s day just around the corner what better way to celebrate than by treating your loved one to a date night at the Guildhall Cinema. Lined up in our February brochure is a wide range of quality cinema perfect for sharing the evening with that special one.
Screening throughout the month is Kenneth Brannah’s love letter to his childhood. BELFAST chronicles the life of a working-class family and their young son's childhood during the tumult of the late 1960s in the Northern Ireland capital. Tipped for award season success and with outstanding performances by the cast Jude Hill, Jamie Dornan, Judi Dench audiences are raving about this wonderfully moving film.
LICORICE PIZZA is the story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around, and falling in love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973. Written and Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film tracks the treacherous navigation of first love. Marking the big-screen debuts of its two lead performers, Alana Haim (from the band Haim) and Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late celebrated actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman. They star alongside a bevy of scene-stealing supporting actors including Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Benny Safdie and Maya Rudolph.
Inspired by the extraordinary real-life events sparked by tenacious hairdresser Liz Evans, SAVE THE CINEMA illustrates how the resolve of a small Welsh town, was able to bring Hollywood to their doorstep. To revitalise the cinema a desperate Liz writes to Hollywood to ask for a helping hand. One late night phone call later from Steven Spielberg, who throws The Lyric a monster-sized lifeline and a premiere Carmarthen will never forget.

Finally in LOLA & THE SEA , just as Lola (Mya Bollaers) learns that she can finally have her life changing surgery she receives the news that her mother has passed away. Travelling home for the funeral she must face her estranged father, Phillippe (Benoit Magimel), who she hasn't seen for two years. Introducing transgender actress Mya Bollaers (Margritte Awards Most Promising Actor) LOLA AND THE SEA is a tender exploration of family and identity.
