The forthcoming Autumn Festival at Robinswood Hill will celebrate the conclusion of a three year project to bring local communities together, and closer to wildlife.
Tuesday 25 October will see Robinswood Hill spring into life for a special event during the autumn half term holiday. The day will also celebrate the imminent conclusion of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s ‘Return to the Hill’ project, delivered in partnership with Gloucester City Council’s Countryside Ranger team.
The project, which began in 2020 and was funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, set out with ambitious aims to strengthen relationships with local communities, provide better access and encourage residents to discover the wildlife on their doorstep.
Not only has the project succeeded in increasing the number of visitors to the Hill, it has also enhanced the visitor experience in variety of ways, including:
• Improving representation of local communities with a series of events celebrating varied cultures. Visitors discovered food and festival in partnership with local community organisations - including a recent Jamaican food and drumming morning.
• Developing accessibility to enable those with limited mobility to explore more of the Hill - using a new all-terrain ‘tramper’ mobility scooter, which is available to hire, as well as a new pram-friendly sculpture trail.
• Celebrating the wildlife and heritage of the Hill by delivering a programme of events, as well as gathering memories and stories from local residents and installing a permanent audio exhibition in the café.
Next week’s Autumn Festival will offer children’s activities, storytelling, drumming workshops, wildlife trails, green woodworking, seed collecting walks, music and more.
The event will run from 11am – 3pm and is free to attend, although there may be a small charge for some activities. Booking not necessary. More information can be found here.
