Secrets, sins and skeletons in cupboards will all be revealed when some of Britain’s top historians, authors and broadcasters appear at this year’s Gloucester History Festival.
Among the star names are Horrible Histories guru and You’re Dead to Me host Greg Jenner, A House Through Time presenter David Olusoga, TV chef Tom Kerridge, explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby and comedians Natalie Haynes & Stewart Lee. For the first time the Festival’s entire talks programme will be livestreamed to a global audience.
Festival highlights include TV historian Kate Williams on the secrets and scandals of the Royal Palaces, prize-winning broadcaster Diarmaid MacCulloch on sex & religion and popular author Shalina Patel on the people hidden from the history books.
The Blackfriars Talks in Gloucester’s iconic medieval Blackfriars Priory are the centrepiece of the two week Festival which features 150 events in the heart of the city running from Saturday 7 th to Sunday 22nd September 2024.
Tickets for the Festival go on general sale on Friday, 26th July, with topics ranging from Gloucester’s greatest buildings, a time traveller’s guide to the River Severn, the life of Oliver Cromwell and the real story behind the gangsters made famous in the TV show Peaky Blinders.
Meanwhile Greg Jenner will delight fans young and old with a riotous journey through Roman Britain and archaeologist Alex Thomson shares discoveries from the A417 ‘Missing Link’ dig.
