Visit a Museum
Take a trip to the Museum of Gloucester to see the brand new Brick History exhibition! This exhibit showcases iconic moments and figures from throughout history in LEGO®. From Mozart to Martin Luther King Jr., from the Big Bang to DNA, and from mobile phones to moon landings, experience history on a relatable, human scale.
Alongside the exhibition, the museum are hosting a range of LEGO® themed events throughout the summer including Little Brick Builders, Bigger Brick Builders, the Brick by Brick Trail, and LEGO® cake decorating for kids and adults!
Enjoy the summer sun with a boat ride at the National Waterways Museum! While you're there, take a look round the exhibits and learn all about our historic docks! You can even complete the Picnic & Pleasure Boats Trail!
The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum is a great choice for the history lovers and they are hosting some great events for all the family this summer! Hide out in the bunker and look through your binoculars to find enemy tanks with Tank Buster! If you have an interesting artifact that you want to know more about book a meeting with museum experts! There will also be a great chance to take a look at their armoury!
Take a trip to Gloucester Cathedral
There are an array of events for all taking place at the Cathedral this summer! Relax with Morning Yoga in the Medieval Cloister, see the sun rise over the tower in their serene Garth garden and more! Every Friday why not Chill on the Green with live acoustic music and street food! You can follow in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims and join a 1,000 year-long tradition by Walking the Labyrinth! Bring the family and become a champion by completing their wellbeing olympics trail!
Marvel at Art
After being displayed in Gloucester Cathedral in 202, Submergence is back in Gloucester between the 7-31 August (Tuesdays-Saturday) in Eastgate Shopping Centre! Submergence Gloucester is a unique and welcoming light and sound event for all the family, creating space for exploration, play and connection.
Gloucester Open 2024 will be showcasing the work of local artists in their own studios and in selected venues throughout the city during the month of August! In addition many shops, banks and cafés in the city have ‘adopted a local artist’ with a piece of their artwork displayed in the window!
Shop Sustainably
Shop sustainably by taking part in the Second Hand Summer Challenge. Simply pick up a stamp card with any purchase at a participating charity shop, collect six stamps in total and you'll be in with a chance of winning a Gloucester Gift Card to spend on whatever you like and keep supporting city centre retailers! Gloucester Bid and Jolt are also hosting a series of workshops themed around sustainability, find out more about these workshops here!
Celebrate all things Retro
Gloucester Goes Retro will be driving into the city on Saturday 24 August! One of the highlights of the city’s vibrant festival calendar, Gloucester Goes Retro features over 500 classic vehicles filling the historic Gate Streets and Gloucester Docks.
For music and dance enthusiasts, visit the Mariners Square Stage where you'll be serenaded by a host of retro acts and get your boogie on with swing dancing. Kings Square will be hosting vintage clothes and antique stalls, a Motown funk-loving disco and a 7hr scalextric competition hosted by The Commentators.
Iconic 124 year old schooner, Kathleen & May, will be open to the public from 11:00 - 17:00! Step aboard for self-guided tours, take a seat in the Captain's Cabin, try out the crew bunks, and learn about her past, present and future!
It's set out to be a fabulous FREE family day out!
Get Outdoors
Get outdoors and enjoy the nice weather in some of Gloucester green spaces! Robinswood Hill is a great picnic sight for all the family, with an onsite cafe and park! Why not walk to the top and appreciate the view!
Alney Island is a serene nature reserve for walking, biking and bird watching amid grasslands & riverside scenery!
Gloucester Park is the largest parkland in the city and has a large play area for children and a skate park for older kids. It also provides a location for a number of groups such as boot camps, tai chi and yoga.
Grab a Tour
Learn about Gloucester's history with one of the many guided tours! Head down to the Folk of Gloucester and take a trip back in time guided by the colourful characters who lived and worked in this row of Tudor houses. Immerse yourself in fascinating facts and gory stories while you explore the many rooms with a serving maid, an undertaker, a Bishop or other larger than life characters from the past 500 years!
Throughout August, guided tours are available at Blackfriars Priory where you can learn about the site's rich history as you move through the various rooms, from the towering North Range, originally a 13th Century Dominican church, to the ancient Scriptorium.
The Gloucester Civic Trust offer a range of tours including Roman City Tours, Guided City Walks, and Eastgate Chamber Tours!
Eat Out
There are some great food & drink places for you to try this summer! The Gloucester Food Dock has a range of options from bars to cafes and restaurants!
The much-loved Dr Foster’s, located in the picturesque waterside setting of Gloucester Docks, recently reopened as a gastropub, with a fresh and re-imagined concept, which is being brought to life by A Rule of Tum.
A favourite of ours is Spago Creperia, located opposite the LV14 SULA Lightship landmark. A unique restaurant serving authentic tapas and the most delectable crepes you ever will try, bringing a taste of Spain to Gloucester Docks.
Stay the Night
