Gloucester’s historic Guildhall is a distinctive venue for meetings, entertainment and corporate events. It was originally built in 1890 and opened in 1892 on the site formerly occupied by Sir Thomas Rich’s Blue Coat School! A large scale refurbishment went ahead between 1985 and 1988, turning the place into a lively venue, and Gloucester Guildhall has been entertaining, educating and invigorating the area ever since.

Theatre

Gloucester Guildhall have a range of theatrical performance coming up! Billy: Twirling Through Time (3 December) is a work in progress sharing of a festive celebration of dance, queer friendships, and identity, inspired by the seminal film Billy Elliot.

The Snowman with the Enchanted Cinema (8 December) is the perfect family friendly event! This fun and interactive event gives you the opportunity to join a lively pop-up orchestra workshop!

Kid Carpet’s Noisy Nativity continues the family friendly fun (10 – 23 December)! A ridiculous Christmas journey of silliness and mischief for the whole family. Will the Christmas story ever be the same again and more importantly, where can we get 6 million silk tinsel headbands?

Hundred Watt Club is back with their festive Burlesque (13 December) Jam-packed full of festive, glittering showgirls, bawdy comedy, classic vaudeville and awe inspiring circus acts. Always seductive, always sublime and always that little bit ridiculous – enjoy an evening of vintage inspired, Christmas themed entertainment! Perfect for a staff night out with a difference, festive party with friends or for helping get that love interest under the mistletoe!


Live Music

There is also plenty for those who love live music! The Bad Manners – Xmas Party is on the 4 December! Bad Manners are the best in British Ska known for their crazy antics and 2 tone tracks. Outrageous and enigmatic, they remain as one of the countries best loved acts.

For a more intimate music night, get your tickets for Limelight Sessions: Jasmine Jethwa, Melle, Tom Mary (18 December). Grab a drink, settle in among the fairy lights and bean bags, and immerse yourself in the magic of these storytellers.


Film

There’s lots to choose from for the film lovers out there!

Soundtrack to a Coup D’état is an innovative and deeply researched documentary that investigates the incendiary politics of the nascent Democratic Republic of Congo in 1960 in the final months of leader Patrice Lumumba’s life.

Bird (15) is a wild and poetic coming-of-age story which shows a 12-year-old girl’s fractured home life that is transformed when she encounters a mysterious stranger seeking out his own family.

Anora (15) is this year’s winner of Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or. A romantic drama with a bleeding edge, Anora is a thrill-ride and an emotional whirlwind about the currencies of life – love, sex, money, and green cards – and their cross-cultural appeals.

Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point shows a family gathering on Christmas Eve for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teenagers sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for her own.

Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story shows Pauline Black, lead singer of 2-Tone hit band The Selecter, telling her extraordinary life story in the same frank manner that helped shape her as an iconic, era-defining female musician.

It’s a Wonderful Life (U) is the perfect Christmas Classic to get you in the festive mood! Beset with personal and professional problems, George Bailey finds his previously happy life falling apart around him on Christmas Eve. Seeing no way out, George considers suicide from the edge of a bridge - but Clarence, his guardian angel, intervenes and shows George what his beloved hometown of Bedford Falls would be like without him.

Die Hard (18) is THE choice for the action fans. A New York City police officer tries to save his estranged wife and several others taken hostage by terrorists during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.

Conclave (12A) follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting the new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope.

The Magic Reindeer: Saving Santa’s Sleigh (U) is the perfect family friendly option! Christmas is on the horizon, and it looks like it’s going to be the best one yet for Niko the Reindeer as he sets off to fulfil his biggest dream - taking his place next to his father on Santa’s Flying Forces. However, he faces unexpected competition from Stella, a mysterious new challenger.

Continuing the family friendly fun is The Muppet Christmas Carol (U) and brand new film Paddington in Peru (PG). The Muppets take on Charles Dickens’s evergreen story of festive redemption. Michael Caine is old miser Scrooge, with Kermit playing his long-suffering but ever-hopeful employee Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy Cratchit's wife, and a host of other Muppets taking on roles throughout Brian Henson’s merry, magical adaptation. Paddington in Peru sees our duffel-coated, marmalade-infused hero venture out of London and return to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, now residing at the Home for Retired Bears. Paddington in Peru is also part of the Guildhalls 'Kids Club'! Childrens (U16) tickets are just £4.50 and becuase grown-ups have to book the tickets and transport the fam, their tickets are FREE (when booked with a child ticket.)


Stop for a drink

The Guildhall Cafe-Bar provides a friendly atmosphere to grab a drink and snack before a film.The wooden finish of the Café’s decoration echoes that of the Guildhall’s Cinema, which was the Council’s debating chamber in years gone by. 

Go and enjoy a beverage and snack in a relaxed and friendly environment celebrating the venue’s rich heritage and modern outlook. They serve ethically sourced coffee, and offer local bottled ale from Gloucester Brewery!
