About
The Cavern is part of Kingfisher Treasure Seekers. We are a cafe/ live music venue, serving hot food and drinks (Please see attached menu) As well as this, we support vulnerable people of Gloucester running an out of hours mental health service. We also help people gain employment with our training programmes and volunteering opportunities. By supporting The Cavern, you are supporting all the work of Kingfisher Treasure Seekers! We thank you!
The Cavern opened in 2015 as an alcohol free youth venue. Giving the young people of Gloucester a safe space to build community. We quickly expanded and began our music and game nights. With a large customer base our family began to grow. In 2016 we began running an out of hours mental health support service, to reach the most vulnerable. In many cases, we provide support to people who have been in and out of different services or who have fallen through the gaps of the system.
Our vision as a coffee shop is to bring people together, people from all backgrounds, beliefs and abilities to build social inclusion. It’s a home from home, a safe place, a place of hope and encouragement. We do this with our training program and by building relationships with all who come to the Cavern, and this support enables people to have a safe and nurturing environment to become the best version of themselves!
As a wider organisation, Kingfisher Treasure Seekers runs a great number of activities, events and programs! We work with many different individuals with varying abilities, giving everyone the opportunity to get involved.
To list just a few of our activities;
We run our anchor programme, helping people with daily challenges and assisting them to become more independent in day to day life.
Our Lighthouse programme combines self-directed learning with enablement, social development and fun-filled enrichment through creative use of a wide range of both in-house and community activities. We provide a guide to help each of our users live the most enhanced, fulfilling and independent lives they can.
There are also a variety of courses available, designed for parents, students and well, all individuals! These include- Leadership, Building Better Relationships- (looking at what constitutes a healthy relationship. This course has been designed to support people to be less vulnerable to CSE, 'mate' hate crime, or being exploited in any other way. It gives people the tools to spot a toxic relationship and supports people in developing healthy relationships), Better Budgeting, Confidence Building and Beat the bugs- (developed with Public Health England to encourage self care and to help people stay healthy). We train staff in schools to run these courses and they will soon be available to order through our website to enable you to run them frequently in small groups as needed.
(Pre-Covid) We ran our incredible discos, held three times each week for adults with learning disabilities, these were high energy super fun events!! We hold a range of themed nights, karaoke and we play a range of music with modern hits and everyone's favourite classics too!
Another incredible, high energy activity running at Kingfisher Treasure Seekers is our Performing Arts Group (otherwise known as TSPA) Currently running remotely via Zoom, these sessions are attended by over a hundred individuals! Creative arts, singing, dancing and keeping active are just a few of the activities covered within TSPA- It’s truly incredible to see the growth in confidence from our attendees and so much fun!
There’s our gift shop, the heart of our employment assistance programme. We help our volunteers to learn valuable skills within the retail environment and work together to prepare CVs and carry out interview practice to enable personal growth and give individuals help with the steps towards gaining paid employment and becoming financially independent. The gift shop is packed with beautiful fair trade items available for purchase too!
Lastly, our hub, the centre point for information about Kingfisher Treasure Seekers activities (there are so many!) From here we also run arts and craft activities, parties and our well known take and make products are available for purchase. Take your pack home and get creative!!
Due to Covid, our services are running slightly differently to normal. See our website for more information on how to get involved, find out more about Kingfisher Treasure Seekers or to donate today.
