Get ready to walk a real life rainbow!

Local colour creative, Tash Frootko (see blog here), took transforming a street to the next level in Summer 2020 when she painted forty of the fifty-two houses on St Mark Street in exceptionally bold and vibrant colours.

If you love colour then you will adore this kaleidoscopic street, now fondly known as 'The Rainbow Street'. The now famous street, located a ten minute walk from the city centre, gained huge amounts of media attention, and has featured on TV and in a BBC4 short film.

One of the windows near the mid-point of the street has been decorated by Tash with information about the project, and features a commission from artist Georgia Hurley. The artwork depicts all of the houses from the street in correct colour order on a wheel. Which is your favourite house colour and can you locate it on the wheel?

The Rainbow Street looks sensational in photographs and is a brilliant background for selfies. This colourful street is guaranteed to make you smile whatever the weather!

Take the Rainbow Street Tour – Pick up a leaflet on Rainbow Street to start the trail. Scan the QR codes in the windows to link to information about the rainbow makeover and how it came about. Additionally, three QR codes will link to oral histories which were recorded with street residents, including the person who has lived on the street the longest

Since the Rainbow Street was completed, a wonderful ripple effect has happened and a street very close to it was also turned into a mini rainbow. You can find this a short walk away on Sebert Street, GL1 3BP.
