About

A short comic drama about the Siege of Gloucester — a pivotal moment in the English Civil War — followed by music from folk group The Gloucester Diamonds.

The Siege of Gloucester is in full flow. Joan Dorney, journalist is on the scene to report on the bothered and bewildered citizens of Gloucester. Witness the King trying to assert his rule, only to be thwarted by the good citizens Mistress Deighton, Mistress Jelly, Sir John and Min the maid. The play is inspired by real characters and forms part of the citywide celebration of Gloucester Day, which marks the lifting of the Siege of Gloucester in 1643.

The Gloucester Diamonds started out as a shanty group, and their repertoire has now extended to include traditional, humorous and contemporary folk songs. There will be plenty of rousing choruses to sing along to!

The bar and cafe will be open for the duration of the event. This event is free and unticketed, so just turn up and join in the fun!
