About

Spaniel in the Works Theatre Company presents this lively, funny family show looking at the life of Gloucester's warrior queen Aethelflaed. The show lasts approximately 30 minutes and is suitable for ages 6 and above.

Aethelflaed, daughter of King Alfred the Great, was born into the midst of the Viking invasion of Britain in the 9th Century AD. As her husband's health declined, she took over the ruling of the Mercia in central England. At a time when life for most women was dull and uneventful, she led armies into battle, made political treaties and even found time to set up St Oswald's Priory in Gloucester city centre.
